Porsche and Bentley bodyshop estimator

used to be on the tools as a panel beater and worked my way up to estimating jobs as i had the people and IT skills required to do the job

have to speak to customers, estimate jobs, chase insurers for authority, arrange hire cars, update customers while the cars here, upsell on cars while they are on site, arrange collections and deliveries and loads of other shit iv forgotten

has its good and bad days, bad when customers moaning about repairs taking too long when their car is fucked and thinking it takes a day to fix them, good days being based at a nice Porsche dealership and having the odd chat with celebs when their cars come in, and the odd test drive of some of the sales demo cars

not sure if im staying put as i would like to earn more in the future, but we'll see...

I work in IT in Banking, it's great, no one knows their arse from their elbow, we get to waste millions deciding what we're doing then deliver over time and budget, if at all.

You could do MOT's on Impreza's with that skillset

On a serious note, ever done power stations? We spend millions trying to reduce the nasty stuff that comes out of our chimney.

Aye, ferrybridge, cockenzie, few others.

Old coal fired stations are always dirty, will always get high pm results. Depends what you are getting high results in though, alot comes down to temperatures and can be as simple as the coal itself.

If you have bag filters, the coal can be milled to finley and actually cut the bag filters. Precips are good, aslong as looked after.

Aye it's a fascinating topic tbh

I work at Drax, currently looking at converting to Biomass so we're taking it pretty seriously. Trialled all sorts of coals though over the years and spent a fair whack on an FGD project some years ago.

My Gramps worked at Drax after WWII until he retired

I work for a mobile phone company in the head office as a regional finance analyst. my role basically supports the regional ceo and cfo for the southern europe region (italy, spain, greece, portugal, albania and malta ie the toxic assets) providing them with financial results and analysis for planning forecasts and actuals including quaretrly external releases plus ad hoc work such as M&A, business cases etc

great company to work for (albeit ive bene here along time so not such a fan anymore) and the job would be really interestign if i were more motivated. i get to work directly with 2 of the msot senior people in one of the largest and most important companies in the world and am privy to lots of interesting adn exciting projects and thoughts; the kind of experienc ethat is compeltely invaluable.

lookign for other opportunities at present howeevr (both here in london and externally in new york and the US)

Time served baker. Ovensman, confectioner, table hand. Do quite a few things, nothing that's the same day in day out.

Its decent, pay could be considered no bad for the work i do. Never rushed about doing stuff, pretty easy going.

Production worker/team leader at a ford production plant.

Used to only fit flywheels, now i'm trained to do a multitude of jobs and group leader stuff.

Time flies in there which is great, pay is very good and i'm matey with the supervision/management which has it's perks.

Unsure if you're interested in shift work/manual labour but theres a new engine line going in in a couple of years and they'll probably advertise externally for jobs. It's right near you so ideal for commuting.

Sounds perfect tbh Ben. I would be interested without a doubt, and if was now I'd be applying..
Few years down the line I would probably have moved out.

Do you have anything on paper relevant to your job, or did they just let you start?

My girlfriends cousin graduated from an architectural technician degree recently and he's struggled badly to get a job in that field (applied all over the country, done free work for local people etc). Seems a difficult industry to get into.

Im sure that would make him an architectural technologist if he done the degree.

Its hard if you have no experience even with a good qualification, as with most jobs really.

Just the usual qualifications. Had to do a few tests the same day I had my interview but were easy.
