you have just made it worse, it's the bigger the gap the better, why do you think you get aftermarket coils with a higher voltage output...so the spark will jump further FFS

tried bigger spark plug gap and it slowed down the engine

What exactly did you use to measure the speed of the engine?

The stopwatch on your mates mobile phone

plug gap for my engine is 0.8mm and not 1.1mm and used feeler gauges to measure plug gap,
rev counter and speedo and 8 mile stretch of road

if you use spark plugs that use a 1.1 mm plug gap this gap can be made smaller to 0.8mm then you get more spark energy for the spark plugs

for the love of god obviously it will make it worse unless you have a better coil, even if you have a better coil you can only make the gap bigger by 0.1-0.2mm anyway, what you have done is make it easier for the spark to jump making the actual size of spark smaller, so no you are actually reducing the spark energy. this means there is less energy to make a chemical reaction so its now harder for the fuel and air to chemically react .
you see if you set them back to the way vauxhall set it i think it will be better.

just read this thread, and it has to be a bet of some sort.

The 1.4 SPi engine is shit. Always has been and always will be...there is NO way of making it better! All of that 'free' time could be spent doing something else...like modding a 1.6 8v as you can actually get power out of them!

I dont understand why so much time and effort is being wasted here. Its a common saying that ... "to make a quick car, you start with something quick".

A 1.4 SPi engine...you may as well get on wit modifyin ur bicycle mate, be much better.

then why...oh why are you doing this?? Its a complete waste of time!

I'm just trying to say, that there are better engines that WANT to have potential released. At the moment you are flogging a dead horse!
