7D is what I have It's a brilliant camera, and I know what you mean about the step up. I came from a 450D.
Have you upgraded the firmware to V2.0?

I was blown away by the image quality. It was a toss up between this or a 5D but if I went for the 5D it meant buying lenses too. My Tamron 17-50 f2.8 looks x10 better on the 7D compared to the 400D too. I'm already on the v2.0 firmware. Slowly getting to grips with the different layout too. It took me ages to find out how to activate AEB!

Likewise. I was considering the 5DII, but the lens I was using wasn't compatible with it being full frame.
The only thing I'm not happy with is the noise levels higher up in the ISO range, but other than that, I can't complain.
I bet it made your 400D seem like a toy in comparison.

I think your expectations might be a bit high then. The 7D is class leading when it comes to ISO performance. From what I've seen all the way op to ISO 6400 is very usable. I think you'll have to go full frame to find something that'll rival it.
Rob, do you mind me asking why you didn't go for the cheaper 60D? Or did you get it second hand?

After I had decided to rule out the 5D I reconsidered the 60D as this had also been an option I had ruled out earlier. Having never physically played with either I went to the shop to do just that. They are both pretty similar in terms of spec and capability but the 7D won due to a number of factors over the 60D.
The 7D's body is larger than the 60D and felt much more natural in my hand. The placement of your right hand round the body feels much nicer due to the added bulk of the 7D. I was also very taken with the 7D's focusing system and the 100% field of view through viewfinder. One thing that I really didnt like with my 400D was the 95% field of view and unfortunately the 60D is the same! Once you look through the viewfinder on a 7D you will see what I mean. The autofocus system on the 7D also impressed me over the 60D. Its much more versatile with the addition of the little joystick on the rear of the camera. Its lovely being able to reselect your focus point on the fly. A smaller benefit was the 7D takes the same memory cards as my old 400D so I didn't have to restock on memory cards either. Pretty glad about that because I forked out for some decent Scandisk ones about 18 months ago.
Been out yet again tonight, this camera has really put the enthusiasm back into my photography

Tree and "Dodged" area on the right don't look right
I'd crop a lot of grass out imo.

I don't like hdr's. Never look right. Much prefer straight from the camera.

In landscapes, I much prefer the use of an ND gradient. It looks far more natural.

yep, clone stamp tool (just click the S key if you're using photoshop) will get rid of those. Should be very easy for that one, as its surrounded by black. Once you've got the clone stamp tool, just hold the Alt key and choose a source (ie a black bit in this case) and draw over the magic tree to make the circle bigger that you're cloning just right click anywhere and just move the master diameter slider to the right

Nice shot, and nice model too. Although there is a dark spot (possibly a kink in the background) in the bottom right which is a little obvious and out of place.
