Reverse throttle body kit and an external oil cooler are your friend.


Possibly will go reversed inlet for aesthetics, already got an oil cooler hiding in the grill

I want to get the inlet manifold off and painted, but then if I'm going to go to that hassle I may aswell swap for a Spec C one which is all one piece rather than mine which is on "stilts". I'd get one, chop all the redundant vacuum take-offs off and then weld them up, paint it all up nice.

Maybe one for winter.

I've honestly not cataloged it all Brett.

Just totted up some guessed numbers:

Excluding Labour and parts that I've made mistakes on so have bought multiple times (coilovers), probably in the region of £10k but some of that crosses over into the territory of routine/preventative maintenance over a 3 year ownership.

Just the way I like it

Things are all getting a bit controversial now I'm afraid. This one should divide opinion

A reverse bonnet scoop came up for sale, in my colour for not a lot of money - so I picked it up.

My first thoughts were to use it at least for trackdays, the scoop does a great job of lifting the bonnet up a fair bit at speed - so that can only be drag and it looks damn scary. Additionally, since going FMIC the airflow under the bonnet no longer requires the scoop, some people actually under the belief that the scoop is causing more trouble than good.

After fitting it, I don't think it looks THAT bad - might keep it on a few days and see how it grows. The one big issue with it is that there's no protection to rainfall - so when parked at work I'm going to collect water in a few places under the bonnet which is just messy.

Please factor in that this is the first car I've really modified beyond springs and steroes. I made a tonne of mistakes along the way, I reckon if I'd have bought the car and from day #1 handed it to a tuner with £10k - they would have built something much better

Could always knock up a plastic under tray to deflect rain water away from the stuff you want to keep clean. Use a couple of Dzus fasteners (or similar) then it's a 2 second job to remove/refit for track days.

Aye I could, I may just end up running the scoop day to day though. We'll see what the next 48hours or so does to change my opinion

Brett I really like the rear diffusers, I always think the real bumper was modelled to have one - Subaru just never bothered until the RB320 or whatever it was that came with one.

The only thing that bothers me a bit is it creates a massive pocket where air will go under the car? Are they stable? lol Would hate to think the thing is flapping about when I'm on the motorway

I just never got round to it I guess.

It does seem a bit of an odd design that it can trap that air - but surely it's not too different to the air getting caught by the bumper anyway. I'm not sure how the aerodynamics work under the car exactly - but perhaps that's a low pressure area anyway.

gonna be the first to say im not a fan of the new bonnet vent, doesnt look right to me, always liked the look of the scoop on scoobies

but for your FMIC application i can see the reason behind it, each to their own i guess

good thing i sold mine or id be buying a rear diffuser lol, they look smart, think that should be the next purchase for you kyle

Fair comment dude, tbh I expected it to cause more upset than it has really. Went down to a local monthly Jap meet last night and a couple commented on it, mainly positive. That said, an Impreza with a chargespeed kit and big monster sticker also got positive comments

Remember my boost leak detector? (bottle stuck in the inlet and compressor nozzle into a breather hose?) Since my new turbo intake pipe, that was no longer possible as it doesn't have any of the breather takeoffs the old one had.

With that in mind, I engineered me a new setup.

Gone is the bottle, and here is a metal bung with bike tyre valve

Been working most weekends recently, and wedding stuff is starting to take over too so no trackdays or anything like that unfortunately.

I did however spend some time tinkering on the car this weekend between other bollocks.

Back at Elvington on the handling course, I wanted to make some tweaks to my compression damping later in the day to find the adjusters in the base of my coilovers were totally seized up

There was a grub screw in them which just wouldn't come out and I knackered one trying.

I talked to KW a few weeks ago and they sent me the pages from the service manual which explained how the knobs are replaced. The manual suggested that the grub screw didn't actually stop the adjuster from spinning, it just held in an inner bearing type ring. It also suggested that the knob would lift right off if a semi solid rubber seal was popped out too.

Further chats with KW resulted in them sending me two replacement knobs and seals for £15 delivered. If I was successful replacing the rears they could order more in from Germany for the fronts.





You can see on the underside of the knob that it had started breaking down and had corroded itself to the coilover. Luckily after I popped off the seal it was dead easy to lift the knobs off.

I scraped all the crap off, cleaned it all up and then refitted the new knobs with a smear of copper grease to hopefully protect in future. I'm also going to order some silicone caps to fit over the base of the coilovers.

Having adjusters on the base of exposed equipment like this is such a bad idea, but with the rebound adjusters being on the top I suppose they ran out of room without getting clever.

New knobs look good though, and I can now adjust compression on the rears



Will get the fronts ordered in, but I'm expecting them FOC tbh as the coilovers are only a year old and the car has hardly been on the road - so this sort of corrosion seems a bit off to me...

Yeah I'd agree. Not sure exactly what's gone on, some sort of reaction I suppose.

Rubber/silicone caps would be such a cheap addition, no idea why you wouldn't supply with them tbh.
