Moving away from discussing if Hamiltons Dad pronounces Quinoa - Keen-wa or Quin-Oh-Wa

Did anyone hear the usually morose Button laughing at how fast the Williams was on the straight?! Was funny

Are lorry drivers working class? Similarly, does earning £30k pa make you working class?

I wouldn't say earning £30k pa would make you working-class, likewise £40k doesn't make you middle-class. Again, i didn't say the class system is determined purely on salary, you did.....

Not trying to paint a picture of anything. Just stating that he wasn't 'ghetto' council estate scum as some are suggesting....

Plenty of drivers are from broken homes and plenty of families sacrifice a lot for their children.
If you asked if any of the current F1 drivers had the same sort of childhood, then probably not. Go back 15-20 years and i suspect it would be different however.

Stevenage is a stereotypical 'concrete' town and parts of it (walk 10 minutes out of the centre and you're in the country side) does look a bit of a dive but there's a shed load of money in the town (due to the tech/military companies) and property has always been reasonably pricey (considering it's location to London).
Either way, plenty of F1 drivers have come from worse places - Uphall, Hemel Hempstead, Barnet etc

As for current drivers, Kobayashi's home town Amagasaki perhaps?

So you're an 'average' driver if you don't get backing from major team during your junior years?

Either way i don't think anyone has disputed that Hamilton (nor his father) hasn't worked hard to get where he is, like every other driver, but there was a reasonable amount of luck involved for Hamilton to be there at the right time and place to get noticed and picked up by Mclaren.
And the question still remains, would Hamilton be where he is without Mclaren's backing and having to work up chain like other drivers?

Possibly. Who's to say it wasn't done to even the odd's?

Not that i'm stupid enough to believe that any Mercedes personnel would do that. But i'm sure 90% of Facebook users think that way.

Going back to this, Mclaren seem to have made up their mind and if i was basing it on Jenson's body language alone in the past few races I'd say his days are numbered. Mind, they've been numbered ever since Ron told him to get a jog on

Twitter seems to think that Honda have agreed to pay Alonso's salary for three years. This rumour is smelling more and more like the Lewis/Merc one in 2012.

Do they keep JB or KM in that scenario? JB has got positive Honda history but kM is cheap, roughly equal on performance and Ron seems to like him.

So Honda have given us a glimpse of their PU. Not much other than eye candy as no doubt they'll be hiding an secrets like the other 3 did when they launched their previews

Looks like we could be having an extremely wet Japanese GP, with a typhoon not far away.

Wouldnt mind another Fuji 07, with the same result for Lewis and his team mate

Rumours that qualifying and the race might have to take place on Saturday if the typhoon looks like hitting the circuit. Its due to get close Sunday. Maybe even fully PP'd

Cancel the race tbh.

Gives Rosberg 25 fewer opportunities to catch up to Lewis in the WDC

Gives lewis less chance to gain more points and distance between himself and Nico though, Kyle.

Ah, 20:41 in the evening - 19mins to grab a beer or two from the bar, then get back up to the room for FP1.

The one time this year where my timezone is favourable for F1

Just finished watching FP1&2. Lewis looks in good nick, fastest lap set of worn mediums after a mega moment coming out of Degna 2 on his first run. Even on his best run he was out of sorts coming onto the start finish straight, mind Nico messed up the chicane too.

Quali looks like it will be dry, so all being well it'll be a Merc 1-2, seeing as they looked in a world of their own in practice. Race looks like it will almost certainly be very wet however. Always mixes things up, could be a big one for the title race!

Jesus Christ, I did not even think vettel would leave his beloved team

Tbh that looks like he couldn't handle being shown up by a talented team mate.

I hope he does well at Ferrari. Hoping the team get back on track.

Alonso to Mclaren Magnussen will learn a lot from him.
