I stayed at the same hotel as the whole fulham team on the first day of the season, so saw all the squad and the only one who came across as a wanker was konchesky, walking around like he's a body builder with a cocky attitude etc
I think he's a decent player, but he's at his level at fulham imo, not the kind of player you want to be signing to push back for the top 4

Unfortunately, as much as we should be buying better players, I think roy has a brief to sign experienced players (28+) in the £3m-£5m bracket, even if/when we sell masch I don't see us splashing out big money for anyone even though realistically we will be about £35m in the black from this summers trading when that goes through.... depressing.

Ben Arfa deal is dead after he reportedly demanded £80k a week
Santa Cruz is meant to be the City player we're interested in on loan. Would be very happy with that

Been growing rumours that we are in for Ben Arfa but not from any solid sources. I see him as a small gamble at 5-7m, he'll either turn out to be a brilliant signing or utterly useless. He's got the potential but his attitude is worrying.

£7m loss?
We will be paying next to none of the future clauses in the contract so our outlay for him will be less than initially expected.

We will lose money, but as per the report Roma released (as they had to due to ownership type) it outlined the full terms of the agreement, including initial payments and the various add ons.
I'll dig it out

Ah no its fair enough, its the same with us and Reyes for example... we never made a loss (material anyway on him) even though he lkeft for around £9-10m ansd we signed him for "£17-20m" as most of it was future based etc - shame the media dont say this !

All figures in euros as of last summer.
5m up front, 3m on 4th Jan 2010, 7m on 30th June 2010 and 5m on 30th June 2011.
So we have paid 15m euros in total and none of the following clauses.
Whilst he is still a Liverpool player...
300k for every year we make the CL to a max of 1.5m
250k for playing 35, 70, 105 and 140 games
1m if we win the CL or EPL before 2014

I wonder how many conditions are in the 16 million euro buyout clause because i'd be amazed if it was straight cash

I really dont know. Id hazard a guess considering he is going there for a year before that it'll include very few as they will of had all that time to assess him and make the decision.

Why would he wait to unveil someone when the season is underway?
I can totally understand why prior to the season starting as its good PR - but makes much more sense to get a player in straight away and training rather than waiting.

From what I'm reading that's due to his agent and he didn't even know about it
We've offered him £40k a week and they want £60k
Would you really offer him near that when Vermaellen (sp?) is meant to be on around £35k?
