Update

Over the weekend I've changed my handbrake cables and fuel filter, no pics of these mundane tasks though.

Work on the C20XE has gone well though. Managed to remove this extremely tight nut with a 150psi impact gun and a blow torch!

So with that off I could then strip down the rest of the timing end.

had a problem getting the oil pump off but that was due to a metal collar being corroded on, heat came to the rescue again!

Will get crank and pistons off this week, and can find out if I'll have to fork out on new piston rings.
Fin!

Update

Took the pistons and crank out tonight

Took the main caps off first

Then removed the big end caps and pushed the pistons out no rings broke so that was good.

Then drew the crank out, was surprised at its weight!

and the empty block, which will get cleaned at work.

Can still see honing quite clearly on bores as well, so I don't think they are too worn

Its all about the 2 ply bog paper!

Looking good. Be even better once you've got the block cleaned up at work.

just change them, if they ahve been in there for any time at all they are under stress so i would just put a brand new set in there the last thing you want is to check them and think they are find but after 5k you find it running like a dog and a ring has snaped got lodged in the skurt of the piston and ruined the bore

shold fit an early crank, lighter and rev quicker also re ring it, you'll be a fool and kicking yourself putting old rings in and starts smoking heavy because of it.

ok will re ring for sure then ,thanks for the advice

Does a ring kit come with new oil wiper rings?

Is the earlier crank that much better to warrant buying a new one?

hmm I'll look into it, and it wont be getting throttle bodied, i'd stick a LET in if I was going to spent that sort of £££

Good to know about rthe rings will be ordering when I get paid hopefully.

So phil do you actually sell this stuff or are you just telling me shop prices that you have seen?

Update

Finally won the war over the valve stem seals, I just proved to skill full for them.

Then I decided everything was getting abit everywhere so with the help of Goodrich Actuation System's boxes I tidied everything up. Ended up with this

tidy

apart from this bit

not

will sort that out tomorrow though.

Fin

Update

Got some more parts towards the conversion

ECU and loom arrived a few days ago (thanks 'immortal_til_i_die' great seller )

Also I went to pay another visit to Luke's 'Aladdin's cave' of corsa parts on Friday. Came back with this beast

Custom made 2.5" bore exhaust system, with a 3" outwardly rolled tip

just need to lop the turbo downpipe off!

Also got these wheel bolt covers

a pair of front black door cards as my XE mullered my pass side one on its way home, manifold studs and bolts and lastly an assorted collection of rubber hoses and joiners.

Thanks Luke top bloke

Just to add, I've just washed, polished and waxed the car, and then it has immediately rained on the car.

oh well beading shots ftw I suppose
