Go over to mk3oc and say that. They will linch ya
The C18XE had 125bhp from factory but they still pull around 135-140bhp with a panel filter and exhaust. And were pretty quick.
Nothing compared to a C20XE tho.Ive had both and the C20XE would run rings around the 1800.Had a bit sport with a C20XE Astra when i had my 1st 1800 Gsi and he just pulled right away from me.With ease.I did keep with an XE Corsa Gsi off the lights but tbf,it was 4 up and they werent exactly slim jims. And it was one my mate built a few years previous and he said it wasnt all that quick when he done it.
The guys on mk3oc with C18XE'd Astras all rave on about them.Yeah it pulled 140bhp and is as quick as a Redtop Gsi.Erm maybe no pal.
So i still cant see how the slower X18XE1 can be as quick as an XE when both fitted to a Corsa.

You are comparing the X18XE to the X18XE1 the engines couldnt be more different. The X18XE is a family 2 engine.
You should be looking at the performance differences between the 2.2 and the 1.8 MK4 Astras..
0.3 seconds difference in 0-60 and 5mpg difference in top end.. There is a 400cc difference!
The engines arent as closely matched in the Vectra as to be honest the engine isnt really suited to a chassis that heavy..
Stick one in a light car like corsa or nova and the engine can show its potential.

So the 2.0 Mk4 is quicker to 60 than the 2.2 as theyr is about a 0.5sec difference between the 1.8 and 2.0.What happens after 60 tho??
What about comparing the 1.8mk4 to the 2.0 mk4??Then compare the same 2.0 but in the mk3 gsi and the C20XE in the Gsi.The C20XE gsi would run rings around the X20XEV GSi.
Basically what your saying is stick the 1.8 in a corsa and take 2+secs off 0-60 but stick an XE in a corsa and take 1 sec off 0-60.How does that work??
Also what is a Family 2 engine??Ive never heard of that in my life.

Family 2 are the big block engines.. Family 1 are the small block engines..
The 1 on the end of X18XE1 is to differentiate between the big and small block 1.8's because there is also a X18XE which is the same size as the X20XEV.

Early Astra G 2.0 is 0.1 seconds quicker than the 1.8..
In the Astra F the X20XEV 0-60 = 8.5 seconds, cant find any factory figures for the C20XE in the Astra F?

I'm not sure how I can make this any clearer as I've said it about ten times...
THE X18XE IS NOT THE SAME AS THE X18XE1 or Z18XE, THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ENGINES!
The X18XE doesnt share anything with the X18XE1, completely different block, head, crank, pistons, rods, management, cooling system etc. etc..

1.8 owners always say that and it pisses me off, yes theyre only slightly off the pace on paper but in reality the 2.2 is a fair bit quicker, infact mine was dead level with two of my mates c20xe astra gsi's.

why is this argument still going on??
z18xe/x18xe1 has a much better head design and quite a bit of potential. they'll catch on soon

And mobby a lightweight fly wheel wont give you more bhp. Get a dbilas inlet. Pricey new but my mate got his for £300 off here. Bargain and gives great results.

why wont a lightened flywheel do anything. is the comment.''wont do anything it aint a v6'' true?? surely it must do something with a remap by city styling

once the c20xe dies out.
i personally believe the 1.8 has good potential. can't be that bad used in quite a few forms of motorsport already. can get stroker kits etc.
think could easily hit figures made by c20xe with the same money spent and its a lighter package.
standard lumps can't really compare them.
buh tuned then it starts getting good.
btw im not arguing i also agree both standard engines in a corsa c20xe will piss it.
and i have a 1.8 in my possesion.

He's not saying it won't do anything. But afaik a lightened flywheel will not give you extra bhp but the car will accelerate better.

Yup, because it weighs less then the engine can get it to spin faster quicker. Same with deceleration, it has less momentum so will stop faster.

Yes but a heavier flywheel will carry more power.
They both have advantages and dis-advantages.

I worded it wrong.I think i ment the heavier flywheel will carry more mass, which means going up steep hills will be alot easier.

Naa! Just strip the car out then you'll not have any problems with hills.
