indeed

that tapping noise wasnt a noisy cam/tappets, although i was right topend

very hard to diagnoise on a new engine, is it tappets? is it cams?

no it was valve to piston contact noise!
after a few miles it decided to drop a head off a valve

can be put down to either.
no enough clearance on pockected pistons (yes i should of checked it properly, by it turned over by hand fine)
pockets in wrong place (see pic)

too big cams

soo £700ish + alot of time wasted waiting for people =

GAME OVER

surely if it was either one of those things, it would have doen it on more than one valve if not all, it sounds to me that there might have been a collett fitted incorrect or something, but until you have deep investigation into it you wont know, gutted for you mate. hope its a cheap fix

Cant see pics but gone of what warrens said!

The clearences in the 1.8 are miniscule!

so after my saturday, im not one to get anergy/dishearted

i had a little ring around/look on the net

then while awaited replies done this

found some one on migweb/here with a 84k x18xe1 in middlesex

so sunday morning, done a 160mile round trip for..

deck init

one engine

quick steam clean

swapped sump

new engine in

changed rocker covers

had a few issues with crank sensor, wired new crank in, but no rpm signal messed around, but no luck. So fitted the old z18xe sensor with a bit of modifing

and see ran loverly with a new oil and filter,
how she slept last night

Warren also changed the sump because he wanted to use his x16xe exhaust manifold.

Good stuff warren glad your not sulking like most of us would

Can you still use the cams you were using before as they are alright arnt they? or would you need headwork/diff parts to use them again?
