A quick update which will probably be the las for a while as my money has to go elsewhere - paying back my mum for lending me the money for the F28 with the Quaife and my sister for lending me a little bit more then budgeted for a suit for her wedding (bought a Hugo Boss - whoops lol)

Anyway at the end of Jan I collected my bottom end from Banister engines so a quick pic of it all together.

Last but not least I bought a second hand z20let oil pump. Its had a quick clean in the parafin bath at work but will be stripped, ultransonicaly cleaned and re assembled this week if I can be bothered.


Next update will see the collection of my gearbox, and the start of assembly for the bottom end once I have some new .25 bearings, ARP mains, zlet modified pickup and a new gasket/seal set.

bloody hell is Banister engines still going? he must be near 100 years old

How much he charge you? just out of interest as need some machine work doing and did not think he was still around (u2u price if wanted).

Col I tried on a few and it was a toss up between the Hugo Boss and one in Moss Bros. It was a nightmare trying to find a suit that fit, my shoulders and back are bigger then I thought!

Beardy, I paid £220 all in. That included having the block bored to 87mm and getting it decked, the crank ground to .25 on the bigs and mains, my rods checked for ovality due to being second hand and full bottom end got dynamically balanced.

Im very happy with the work done and the price I paid. I'll be taking my head there to get checked over and presure tested in the not too distant future.

Not bad at all, Banister engines are one of them little known places. Old man in a shed type buissness.
He used to build all the top power jap cars in the UK (RB Motorsport etc)

Aye hes a proper old school, time served kind of engine builder. His workshop is cool though, some of the ancient rare engine components he has lying around from various customes is fascinating. I would much rather have somebody like him then some of these so called "engine builders" that have been mentioned on here do the work I require.

Quick update, cleaned and de-coked all my valves at work to find a few of the exhaust valves are very slightly bent, also 3 inlet valves are different to the rest.
Also stripped down the oil pump to find unforunetly it has had debris through it so im going to get a new one, but will probably use this one just for the running in process.

Iv also been in contact with a very very very good engine builder/tuner (he built the world record Skoda engine) where im going to be sending my cylinder head for some porting and seat work, as well as a few engine components for a bit of extra final process before they go in the engine.

Due to one of my very good friends breaking his track Fiesta ZS for parts as he is moving onto property, being the vulture that I am I went and grabbed alot of parts that I know I wanted off him.

Couple of Motordrive seats


Whiche where quickly stripped for a good clean


A Titlon rear brake presure adjuster and a few braided lines


Odyssey light weight dry cell battery and mount


And last but not least an Accusump to help keep sufficient oil pressure during surge conditions when on track.

Ben ill be running a remote filter/oil cooler setup so its going to get plumbed into that. Probably just after the filter before it goes back into the engine.

Col, I aint spent the money yet. Everything there is more to help me mock up locations so I can keep making progress before I pay lol

Think ill have to get the arch roller out and give the arch edges a bit of a push back, not too fused about they actual plastic arches as they are cheap as chips anyway.

Got a nice little item of Possy which ill take a pic of tomorrow, as well as my new gearbox once I collect it after work tomorrow.

the car is so fast, love the youtube vid.

i was told by a top redtop engine builder that the cranks should never be ground on these?
he said the design isnt great for a regrind and he said hes done a few that have broke when running big bhp?

im not saying this is true, everybody tells you something different, but have you looked into it?

As far as I know there is nothing wrong with going .25 but personly I wouldnt go much more. Im not going for big power anyway, more moderate power. Im building a track car, not drag, I like the idea of having a bit of a chance of getting traction.

tim bin that crank mate and get a standard size one , i got told by everyone over on mig not to use a re grind one and i did, when we pulled the bottom end apart after 500 miles all the mains bearings were on the way out and just cought them in time
