'In fact, so good is the Clio 182 with the Cup chassis set-up that I feel moved to make a bold statement - I think it's the best hot hatch ever built.'

i think its just the people who are used to having a turbo engine with a dump valve that may feel the clio feels slow.
if it doesn't have turbo torque feel it means its slow

I don't think its that really. Speed isnt just flooring it and holding the wheel straight, its being able to throw a car into a corner at speed and be confident the car will stick and not lose any speed. The clio is so well balanced, its a fantastic driving experience. Very lively, yet forgiving.

That's exactly it, I've never had a dump valve though or a powerful engine for that matter.

Not all turbo cars though. Ive gave a corsa vxr a peice of action up to 100 and this was from the exact same place where i seen the focus st giving it beans from (as mentioned above somewhere) and the clio just kept pulling away.
Dont know how quick these are as ive never been in one but they do sound pretty quick for what they are.

VXR's aren't that quick either iirc, all around the 7 seconds to 60 mark, which when a standard rep diesel can do that isn't fast.
