Update, Got the multi meter out and found the wire from the little connection on the thermostat had a break and not reading at the 9 pin plug in the footwell and coz I've had the loom fully taped up it'll be a twat to find the break so gonna make a new wire and run it up the side of the wing out of sight and solder it to the relevant pin.

Also discovered the coolant temp sensor doesn't work need a new one of those too!

Went out for a drive after tracking it up and all was well until doin around 60 on a dead straight country lane the engine decided it didnt like it's fan belt.. Destroyed it, a friend came to me with his missuses tights to wrap around it to get home haha. Just been to halfords to get a new belt and with trade card it was £1.88.... Bargain!

Right.. The new alt belt won't fit :@ got an Astra gte belt but I'm using the alt of the 1.2 8v and the adjuster bit is different so a new tighter belt wont let the alt bolt to the adjuster :/ longer belt required I think

Ok so after 4 trips to halfords I have a fan belt that fits first got a Astra gte one which is 913mm long, too short.. Then got a 1010mm one which turned out to be massive! Then a 965mm one that was just too big an finally got a 950mm belt which fits just about perfect. Happy days!

Just having teething problems, first drive yesterday snapped a fan belt, too 4 trips to halfords to get one that fits :/ then the exhaust bottomed out on a shit piece of road today, knocked centre pipe off down pipe,  get home jack up to put it back on and see the exhaust and steering rack wet, check expansion bottle... Empty :O take half the bay apart and the heater matrix inlet pipe is leaking at the joint. Repositioned it, tightened up and refilled the system with water :/

Engine temp gauge... it didnt work after putting the XE in the car, Darryl said its a wire from the sensor on the thermostat to the 9 pin plug onto the gauge. today at work i made a new wire, spade connector on the stat housing bit and soldered it on at the 9 pin plug... used 25amp cable. the gauge did move but even with the heaters blowing really hot the needle didn't go above the first little shape on the gauge. can anyone help me out?

Could it possibly have a cool running stat on it? Or it might be stuck open maybe?
