Mike - had it in at the garage the other week and they said there is play in the steering rack. Initially they thought it might be a new rack needed but have been speaking to other garages or something and are going to try just changing the track rods first or something (Dad spoke to them and couldn't remember exactly what it was they said) as that will be a lot cheaper. I do hope it's just that otherwise I'm looking at many dollar
Should be good to go by Friday, Ash At least it had better be as I'm supposed to be doing a local photoshoot meet next Sunday

mine had play in the rack as your describing but luckily i work for a dealership so quick ring to parts supplier and i just changed the actual track rods themselves and chucked some new track ends on whilst i was there and hey presto play gone
but some of them can wear the actual rack inside theres like a nylon bush jobbie if i remember right which is rack replacement lol
hope its the cheaper option for you mate for the track rods and track rod ends i paid about 25 quid all in trade price but for a rack your looking at few more quid

You need to be more organized Sean and get it done properly and sprayed up in one day!
That is all.

Nice one, I think they're going to try replacing the track rods and ends first and see if that works. Fingers crossed The rack was replaced by the previous owner in November '09 so I wouldn't have thought it would have gone again already. They did the whole lot while they were at it with the track rods and everything iirc. Also had the drop links done a month or two later.
Thanks mate, they did say on the phone that if it's a whole rack replacement job then it could be anything up to £500 with the labour on top of parts That would set new exhaust plans back a bit
