I was looking at Canyons. They are so well spec for the money its hard not too buy one. But I got put off by their long lead times in cases and the lead time extending, and their reputably poor customer service and lack of back up in this country.
Hence why I bought my Merida.

that's not too bad then I think its just the sound of 7miles climbing that scared me .
I wish I lived closer to macc to join a club to make sure I get out riding.

Well following up my bike upgrade, never actually done the stuff myself...
Here she is
Basically I've had this bike for over 10 years before I had my licence and use to ride alot (well felt alot back then), she has been sitting pretty for a while in the barn not being used. Left my bike with my LSB and got the following supplied and fitted:
Kinesis Maxlight XLT Forks
Shimano Deore 9-Speed Chainset
Shimano Deore V-brake kit
Charge Spoon Cromo Saddle
Shimano OE M324 SPD Pedals
Land cruiser tyres
New handlebar grips
And the thing flies! I'm hoping for this to be my main commuter bike for now, LBS told me the rear wheel is going square so going to source some second hand tingz to sort that but next on the list will be a rack so I can take my bag off my back!

Good job, quite satisfying reviving an old bike. I still have my old Claud Butler I had at school which the other half uses now. I constantly nag her to make sure she is locking it up properly would be gutted if it got nicked!

Nice one, bet it feels a load lighter now!
Whats the surface like on the commute? Some semi slick tyres will speed it up a treat too
Just realised i got my dates wrong. Riding the final round of the national xc champs at the hadleigh olympic course. Thought it was at the end of the month but its this sunday and practice on friday

Yeah feels alot more lighter without the suspension forks!
Surface is ok, some rough roads but not too much. I went for the land cruisers because it has a nice 70/30 mix for road/canal paths and I had it on my *first* commuter bike (the muddy fox). I almost went for the semi slick option but felt these tyres have given me so much for so little monies, still need to pump them up to 65 psi to see what its like on the road

My work have just started the bike2work scheme and now I'm stuck on what to get I want a 29er but there is nothing decent for the money you can spend so do I buy a rd bike and then buy a new frame for my current bike as its the only thing I haven't changed

You can get £1000 can't you? Plenty of decent bikes in that price bracket in all three wheels sizes.

Plus I think that now you can just buy parts with the voucher if you already own a bike, maybe use it to buy new frame/forks/wheels and swap other components over to it, you'd get a decent frame for £400, wheels are £200, forks can be had for £400 or less also.

Not on the bike2work scheme others maybe. Just had a look and on this scheme you cant add any of your own money to it which is a bit shit really as all the others allow you to. Ideally I want a planet x dirty harry 29er but that aint gonna happen now
