Completely pointless, unreliable and too expensive. Go for a 2.0 Turbo from a Cavalier or Calibra.

Depends why you want it. If you want to spend a lot of money doing something original then go for it, if you want it for power, on the cheap then its a non starter really. If you just want to have a turbo and fancy a project then its ok.

i was thinking about getting this done untill i emailed courtenay sport Ltd.
Reply: "Thanks for your enquiry, we do have a conversion for this car the standard
conversion is £2995 and gives 150 bhp and 160 lbsft of torque. We can take
this further with the aid of a new inlet manifold and additional piggy back
computer and extra injector. This cost an extra £975 and will put the power
up to 175-180 bhp.

It all sounds pretty good untill you beging to realise that thats the price for the kit without fitting! meaning this type of upgrade is worth more than the car itself. Do the same project with a 2ltr and the Ponys will be higher than that at a lesser price.
I completely agree with original modding so if you wonna go for it do it mate
but at least now you know some figures

I think that is the fitted price. Getting courtenay to do it isn't the best idea ever though. If that is the kit price then its the biggest rip off ever!
I nearly turbo'd my 1.4 16v, was going to use proper custom low comp pistons and the DTA management I now use on my tb's.

hey miles, what are your tb's like? well worth the money? ive been talking to my dad and he used to own a fully modded 1600cc ford escort Mk2 RS and he put twin webber 45 carbs on. Apparently its was stupidly fast on acceleration. i was thinking of doings this but heard they're unreliable. thats why im interested in tb's. how mauch did you pay and where did ya go?

yeah Twin 45's are great as long as you dont mind 100miles from a 44litre tank of petrol!!

Tb's car cool, car behaves normally when you want it too, gets good economy on part throttle, then goes when you put your foot down. They are reliable as you like, well, obviously if the engine is making 50% more power than its meant to things might wear out quicker....

Nah, I changed to the 1.6.
It makes 164bhp at about 7100, with 130lb/ft. Thats on a very conservative rolling road...

very nice like miles, thats what i thought like cybermonkey24, the fuel comsumption will be stupid with carbs. think i'll go for Tb's. but i'll research into things that may need upgrading to cope and save enough money to get all the upgrades done at the same time.

I upgraded in stages - went the Mantzel route before going onto TBs. Wish I'd saved up and gone stright for TBs - would have saved quite a bit of money. I think you're right to save up and go straight for TBs

cool, its gonna take me forever to save up tho, personally, i dont see the point in buying something just to subcidise for what you truely want but hey, every one of us on this site is a modder, and we cant help ourselves.

throttle bodies about £1500 plus fitting plus exhaust manifold plus about £500 of other bits.

my m8s looking at turboing his 1.6 tigra
spoke to courtney at trax.
they use a low pressure turbo or summin.
was considering doing it till i saw the price and imo low figures

a mate of mine "supposedly" had throttle bodies fitted to his nove 1.4 SRi, he bent all the valves a week later, so maybe he actually did..
