Ok, I'm considering getting a dual exit system for my Corsa B 1.2 16v Sxi...

this is a pipe at each side like -o----o- not two pipes together -oo------

Firstly, what will happen to my cars power (yes its not powerful anyway - I know) but will it go up at all since the bore will be increased or will it go down because the piping will be splitting into two pipes and at least one of the pipe's will have to turn around the wheel well, or will this make no real difference?

also if it was originally on a 1.6 16v corsa, when the exhaust was made up would they have made the bore of the piping bigger than if they had made the exhaust for a 1.4 or 1.2 16v? or would it be the same size and thus work just as well on mine.

An exhaust for a 1.6 16v should fit a 1.2 16v fine.

Although you will probably need some extra work for a dual exit to fit because it will need hangers fitting to the car.

As for performance, after i fitted my twin exit exhaust.... ---oo-------------- hehe
I noticed a slight increase at the top end, around the 5,000 rpm mark.
Otherwise not much different except the sound.

er, one of the reply's proves some people don't... look gambit posts the pic of the wheel barrows and calls it 'twin exit handles'!

I explained because a lot of people get confused between 'twin exit' and 'dual exit'... some people call a -oo----- a dual exit, some call it a twin exit and same with a -o------o- system.

I was simply pointing out which one I was talking about muppet.

MikeH - I believe the pipe work for your system is basically the same sort of straight through but its just the back box has two exit pipes, so I wouldn't expect any performance loss with yours.

hence your twin exit exhaust pipes will look like a twin handle on my wheelbarrow pic

and yes it will fit fine, same bore

I got your joke dude - I was explaining to noonster that I call it dual where as others like you call it twin! thats why I drew a picture!

you sure its same bore?

and will I suffer from giant loss of back pressure because of the 2 exits (boxter style boxes)

its defo the same bore, only the 1.0l is smaller

u will suffer slight back pressure loss but it wont be that noticable

the exhaust gases will always take the quickest exit route so unless the distance from each silencer to the front is identical then the majority of the exhaust gases will flow out one side

and finally - you sure i won't get any slight power increases since my tiny exhaust on my 1.2 16v might be a bit restrictive at the mo?

I suppose a good one would balance the length with a restriction in the diameter of one of the sections.. to make the resistance identical.

hey, i thought low back pressure was good..cos in the PVD mag, it says that a remus decreases back pressure by 85% thus giving power gains of up to 5%

wouldn't of thought so - suppose it depends how much it does...

I.e. my exhaust at the moment is like me blowing through a straw - its coming out fast, but I'm unable to blow all the gas through at once! If I held my finger over the end of the straw it'd push it off.

If you then blew through a slightly bigger straw - Then you could blow and have it still come out fast - but it'd basically allow you to get more air through, therefore getting a power increase.

If you then tried to blow through a cardboard toilet roll - all the air would go through yes, but they'd be no pressure to push my hand off if I held it over the end.

Very simplistic way of looking at back pressure - that has nothing really to do with the way it works

Basically by having back pressure - it's able to actually act as a vacum as gases are leaving the engine and going down the exhaust -thus pulling more air / fuel into the engine as the valves open and I believe actually suck air back into it to get a higher compression...

The above could all be complete arse!

and most probably is...
