Ive got to disagree with the 306 thing! my mate has only just been able to sell his, he was trying for about a month, in the end he had to part exchange a particularly doggy 19 16v to be able to shift it!..

That was an N plate TD sport.. he got £2000 for it! that was with 17's and subtle kit.. I wouldnt have even given him a grand thou, not keen on the problems people have with pug's..

The Corsa on the other hand seems very good for the money IMO.. down here in the southwest you'd have people snapping your arm off

i'm tellin ya mate, took me a month up here to find a good one that was the spec i wanted.

All the ones i had seen had been modified (most poorly), or just hadnt been looked after. Fair enuff, i could have bought one of these for £2k, but they aint worth the trouble.

i eventually had to drive to Banbury (150 mile round trip), where i viewed and bought a 1996 D Turbo S in sigma blue (rarer colour) and with the CD/sound pack on it, which was very pleasing. I also got the original reciept for the car and a card sayin wot special edition number mine was

However, i did pay slightly above the odds for it, but it had been so well looked after and serviced by his local Pug dealer every 6k since new.

I very much doubt ur mates was in the kinda condition i was looking for mate, coz for that price it wud have gone within minutes. The guy i bought mine off said he had 18 people call in the first hour it was on the net!! I was a lucky guy to get thru!

lol.....didnt no wot else to put. first PROPER car i've ever had, and i'm finding it very swift. Perfect for motorway miles that i do to work everyday.

My mates got a phase 1 1.6 3 door, and its nice to drive. good motor, but i storm him every time in a race. Even just to sixty which is suprizing.

Well done mate!

Was definitely a very nice clean looking car.
Was gonna suggest just putting 'high milage' but you don't need to now!

nah wot i put down was......"average miles, hence £1000 no offers" and i got loads more fone calls that way.

a mechanic checked it over (came down with buyer) and said it was a great example, alot better than some 50k milage cars. Which i knew anyway. Always looked after that car, it never gave me probs.

I take your point on board about the condition..
My mates wasnt the most reliable or immaculate example..

I wouldnt have one myself, but its your choice, and they do go VERY well for a Diesel!

yeah, with these motors, history and condition are a must have.

If it hasnt had an oil change every 6k from new, it wont last. In the same way, if the coolant hasnt been changed, ur asking for trouble.

Bodywork with these is generally pretty grey area. Most are dented, coz build quality is so shabby, the metal they use is so thing, so most are heavily dented along the swadge lines, but its not a massive problem. Dent master etc can fix these pretty easily.

The main reason i went for a 306 was that its a bigger + safer car than any corsa. It also has alot more goodies and extras than most cars of similar spec. I think it was the only TD out at the time, where the manufacturer had made the diesel range appealing by adding sporty features etc, and it worked, big time!! Oh and the engines on these are solid as fcuk. And easily tunable. And with me doin quite a few miles every week to and from work, and then to and from uni next year, a little buzzy petrol wudnt have beenb appropriate really!
