1.4 16v and 1.6 16v have ally heads, common fault with the 1.4/1.6 16v for head gasket to go. aslo depends if you ragg it. Make sure the head gasket is done asap or the head will crack.

i have a spare cyl head for a 14XE if anyone needs one

woah are they overcharging!!!! it takes BMW 6.6 hours to do a BMW 6 Cylinder head, now if u know these engines they are a fucking nightmare to do. now a vauxhal engine will no way take 10hours! i suggest do it youreslf.. it's not that hard. just common sense.
i did my bmw 328 engine.

16v heads are not a "do it yourself" job. You need the head re-skimming or theres a good chance the head gasket will go again. Mine went at about 30k on my 1.4 16v. Had it all replaced at a smaller garage for about £300 (inc £50 to get the head re-skimmed).

ITs not an easy job on the 16v, 8v easy, 16v, nope.

But dont go to vauxhall, they will rip your head off and stick it up your own bottom.
