who would win between 0-50, my 1.2's got 16's lowered 40mm all round, drilled airbox with panel filter and cold air feed, sebring backbox and centre pipe, the derv's standard except got cav 15's with huge tyres!!! roughly same age and mileage, surely the petrol would be ahead after 1st and 2nd but what then, will derv power kick in????

45 bhp vs 50 bhp. neither mate they are both as slow as each other.

I didnt think there was much in it, my friends got one and we havent raced yet but i didnt think there was much in it, what could i do to try and make that extra 5 bhp up, dont wanna decat tho

The petrol should nip it, I have raced a 1.5d and beat it by a fair margin but this wasn't in a straight line, it was round a few bends.
The 16's with low profiles would probably have a smaller rolling diameter than the 15's with big tyres.
One thing I never get on here is everyone just insists on pointing out 1.2's, 1.0 12v's etc are slow, most people know this, owners know this because they drive them. Not everyone can afford to have 1.6 16v staight away for christs sake.
No point trying to get more power out the car mate, I have a 1.2 8v, got stainless system, induction kit and thats it engine wise, no point spending money on that engine. I have beat bigger engined cars in my car and it aint because of engine mods, its because I know the car well and I know what it can do, get to know how your car drives and use it to your advantage.
And after all if he does beat you at least you aint driving an oil burner.

It is in my opinion that if someone can afford to insure the 1.2 8v they could afford to insure the 1.4 8v sri

For the first year i had my corsa 1.2 8v, it was £1200 tpft under my dad's name. A 1.4 8v SPI was £1500. Cant imagine what a MPi wud have been.

Then in your opinion you are wrong.
1.2 8v group 2 insurance, 1.4 sri group 6 insurance, you do the math. I was paying £1800 for my first year on my 1.2 8v, fully comp in my own name, now could you imagine how much it would cost for me to insure a sri?? Far too much is the answer.

Im 19, have 0 no claims, its my first car, and im a motor technician. My insurance on a 1.4 8v SRi is £720

The lower the power of the car the more weight makes a difference, so if you take the spare wheel out of a 1.0 12v and the jack and save 25kg with a few other bits and bobs you;d notice. On a 1.4 your probably wouldn't.
I had this article where they quarter miled a 1.0 Diahatsu and gradually took weight off and added it and it made a difference, even small amounts of weight.

My question is why does anyone try and race in their 1.2's etc? Im running a 1.2 16V, its slow but its good enough to 'drive' daily and get you around. I'd never even mention 'Vs' until we are talking 1.6's and above... Just my oppinion

^^^^ Fair enough comment, but why do people who are crap at footbll still play it? Cos its good fun, i dont go tearing round like some knob head trying to beat everyone off the lights, me and my friend just wanted to know who had the quicker car, so we went to a nice abondoned industrial estate by us where we wernt causing any danger and had a go down the straight, its like a competition, we always argue whos got the nicest car and stuff so thats why we did it, trust me i know how slow my car is, iv got to live with it

the same way you turn the fuelling up on a td, turn the max fuel screw about 1/3 a turn in. it will smoke, but it will release some more power. an induction kit is a good idea if you do this too.
