yeah if your cam belt snapped, you would have bent between 1/2 or all of your valves.

My belt snapped at low revs at about 15mph and still caused 15 bent valves, would be daft not to get the valves checked before fitting new belt.

Cost me nearly a grand to get it fixed, and then it still wasn't quite the same, so paid out another grand for a 1.6 16v.

Not all snapped belts are a horror story.
My Mrs was driving a 1.4 Astra and the belt snapped. She didn't have a clue what was wrong and sat there trying to start again
I was expecting to fork out for a replacement lump.
Anyway, it turned out that only two valves were bent. Two new valves for £24, and it was sorted at a local garage for a mates rate
I agree with Greasemonkey though, an engine never feels the same when something major has happened to it.

Rob, its a different story on the 16XE lumps. A lot of damage is done when cambelts go on these engines, whether you are travelling at 5mph or 65 mph, the damage is usually 12+ bent valves.

Ah, shows my ignorance then
The Astra was a 1.4 16v, I didn't see Rooney has a 1.6
