right ive been on a long motorway drive today
when i got back my engine sounds like a diesel on tickover but if i hold my rev on slightly it quitens down a bit
any ideas

when was its last oil change?
could be that coz its been far its got a little thinner coxz of the heat and so its knocked a little and the cars cooled the oild got a little thicker and its quetened down
does it do it from cold startup? iol change shud fix it well this is the cheapest option  to try first

dont laugh at me will you but ive solved the problem .......
i put some oil in
there wasnt a drop of oil in it at all not a blob
i hope its not damaged anything
it sounds ok now

erm thats fooking bad!
check why you have no oil! is there a leak is it buring it? if it was damaged before you wont have helped it at all.
i say top up the oil and part ex it for a sport or another car as the engine wont be healthy after being driven with no oil!
supprseised it didnt seize on you. possibly there was oil init but not enuff to rech the dipstick bottom

its gone totally quite now not even a slight tap so im hoping its ok
if it knocks in the morning i will get shut sharpish
oh and i think ive found an oil leak its only a few blobs on drive way at home so i will have to look where is coming from
some where on bottom dont think its sump plug

Sorry to say m8 it sounds like the big ends are away, your discription is the exact same when the big ends went in my old car, whatever you do DO NOT DRIVE IT until you get it checked you might get away with it buy just puttin in new shells
