I beat 3 out of the 4 306 GTi-6's that ran the 1/4 on the Saturday @ USC 2003.
My 106 only had a Closed induction filter at the time.

A totally standard 306 against a totally standard 106......
The 306 "should" win.....the figures show this. Whether it be 0-60, 50-70 or top speed.
Put a 106 GTi against a 306 GTi-6, both with same induction + full s/s decat zaust, 306 wud win. Again in all of the above instances.
However, as pointed out by vibs above, the 106 wud handle better, but thats not to say the 306 is a barge. On 17"s they handle like they are on rails its untrue. Even my D Turbo, which isnt even lowered yet, is so much sharper + better handling than my corsa ever was with -40mm kit on wide 15"s, all round strut braces and uprated anti roll bars.
I'd personally still go for the 306 coz of its goodies, shit loads more room (needed when ur 6' 3") and IMO nicer looking.
Rare 306 models = GTi 6 Phase 1 (only 200 in UK), and the same sorta thing for the Rallye.

306 Rallye is a 16v, basicly less gadgets/gismo's to make it lighter/faster than the Gti-6.
Its the UK 106 Rallye that has a 8v motor, 8v and 16v versions were available on the continent however.
