rite first of all i fink its a harsh grit u need, then white spirit it off, use a good filler primer to see imperfections, as obviously if they are bad sand them down with harsh grit, or to get it smooth use the filler primer, and a 1200 wet/dry, leave it to dry then prime once more and sand down agen this should be pretty smooth.
(btw this is a rough guide i fink cobra148 did a better one but that may of been interior)

You can spray grey primer, but you don't have to, it wont effect the colour at all if you put enough top coat on

if you put too much top coat on it can darken the colour so you wont have a proper colour match.
i think you should go and get some u-pol high build primer if your using a can.think halfords stock it. your best off using a gun to get the primer on in a decent coat to cover the texture in the plastic, but cans might do it. that primer comes in grey i think.

texture wont be to bad on them then, might get away with filler primer. after you've used that give them a couple of light coats of grey so you dont need to use so much blue on them.

you should put plastic primer on first other wise the primer wont stick very well and could flake off.
