The red-field on the M3 is much smaller than mine. And you can't ajust it...which I also can :-)
The LED's switch off according to the following temperatures:
LED #1 @ 25 Degrees Celcius
LED #2 @ 35 DC
LED #3 @ 45 DC
LED #4 @ 50 DC
LED #5 @ 55 DC
LED #6 @ 60 DC
LED #7 @ 65 DC
LED #8 @ 70 DC
These values can of course be changed. The accuracy is within 0.5 DC!!

neat idea itself but personally i'd have went the other way, mine doesnt read oil temp until its above 50 DC but can go up as far 145, anything above 120 DC and i know its time to stop thrashing.

It looks trick
Not a criticism, but I think it might have been better working in reverse. Low temp equals few leds, with the number increasing with the temperature. Maybe low temp lights yellow leds, as the temp increases more leds light but in orange, then turning to red at optimum temperature. Kind of like this

Att: Gambit; I always have my digital thermometer where I can read the oil-temp. all the way up to e.g. 150 DC. Max temp. reached is 125 DC.
Att. cobra; It can easily be reversed. But I prefer not to have anything light up when the engine i warm. I think it would be irritating to look at 8 LED's when driving 300+ km :-)

do you not think its surplus to requirement on a naturally aspirated car?
I mean you have an oil temp gauge anyway.

doesn't the temperature gauge on standard dials measure coolent temp not oil temp

Knowing what temperature your oil on any moving part is a good idea.
Once the oil is at its ideal working temperature then you know its ok to put your foot down.
Have the lights go out like he has done is the same way as the new BMW's have it too.
Maybe have it as it is but then have warning lights come on when it gets to a certain temperature thats too hot

Att. Ditch; there is no oil temp. gauge originally fitted in Corsa! The temp. gauge fitted measures the water temperature. And the water temp. is 90 degrees Celcius long before the oil temp. reaches its working temp.
I think it should be standard in all cars. To many head gasgets are blown because people floor the pedal before the engine is warm!

rite so u saying the temp gauge in my corsa gsi is for the water temp,
so wat is the safe oil temp b4 u shud put ur foot down then?
and how can u tell wat temp the oil is at then?

Yes, the temp gauge in any Corsa is for water temp.
I never rev my engine to the limit before the oil temp. is more than 70 degrees Celcius. It takes 10-15 km. The water temp. reaches 92 degrees Celcius long before. But never floor the pedal before the oil (engine) is warm!
