basically my Girlfrieds headgasket went on her 106 about 1-2 weeks ago. we booked it in to the garage for repair and was told it would cost around £300 give or take a few £££'s.

I phone up a few days later and they told me the gasket was seized to the head and that they had to send it off to be skimmed and the car required 4 new valves as they had burned out, at an extra cost of £190. at this point is was mad that they didnt ring and ask what we would like to do and an extra £190 is a lot. but i let it go and then came today.....

went into the garage on the way to work and they said that everything was fine the guy is putting the head together for you now it will be ready tonight for you. great we thought so along came 6pm, i had heard nothing so i rang then only to be told that the head was infact warped and is going to cost an extra £300-£600 to source and new or recon'd one.

WTF

Advice on what i can do next people.

Cheers

P.s. excuse any spelling errors

alex refuse to pay for the skimming etc, they should have checked the head properly before sending it off to be skimmed.

see if you can find a head for the car, go into teh garage, and ask them how much they want for the work carried out so far, with a breakdown of costs, including how many hours they intend to charge for, and where these hours were spent,
refuse to pay for any work that you didn't authorise, and then see where that will get you. if worst comes to worst, i will refit a new head for you.

they will have a hard time proving that you authorised any work. we get this at work, and end up letting the stuff go for free...
