yeah, but the 192.168.x.x is a machine on your LAN which isnt viewable to people outside, If you want soemne off the intenret to connect, you would need your router to set up port forwarding (as said) so it would be YOURIPADDRESSORTTOBEFORWARDEDTO. You can find out your public IP address by going to www.whatismyipaddress.com, but you might have to do this every time you reconnect unless you have a static IP.

right so on your router config setup your start port as 26000 and your end port as 26000

and the local IP as the DS and then your mate pionts to 80.229.18.212:26000

what version of windows are you on? As nismo said, you also need the IP of the local machine that is hosting the server. Probably the 192.168.x.x, or 10.0.x.x

im running on xp Pro.

ok

say i was hosting on this machine

its local Ip address is 192.168.0.2
its ip address from whatsmyip is 80.229.18.212
and the port number for the game is 26000

so if i host on this and i get my mate to join, all he has to do is join to the ip 80.229.18.212 and it should work...once i have enabled on the router.

thats cos that is trying to connect to that port on your router, not on your PC. After setting up Port frwarding, it shoiuld recognise there was an attempt to connect on that port, and send the information on as it has been instructed to.

yes will need to specify port as wont know what to do, you could be FTP'ing, VNC'ing HTTP'ing

so point to 26000 and game away.
