im guessing when u mean ppl put subs in backwards so ya can c the magnet etc.
The only difference it makes is the area inside the box becomes bigger. If you imagine when the sub is mounted normally in the box the magnet etc (basket) are all inside the box taking up air space. Of course when mounted the other way round this isnt the case.
If you were really serious you would make a smaller box to take this into account.
But in reality the boxes ppl put there subs in are often off the self jobbies and not the right size for there sub anyway.

ps. people put invert em just to be different i guess. Plus u get some really cool designs on the back of subs. For example the Audiobahn flames. O yer the Magnet Destructer subs have a nice chrome back aswell!!
