Having a problem and i cant work out whats wrong.

My computer is freezing when i try to click on certain links.....for example my u2u message link, or when i try to click on any picture to enlarge it.

The rest of the site works fine as do others, it seems to be when i try to click on a picture or some links that it freezes.

When I open up the task manager it says the programme is not responding and i have to end task in order to open up internet again.

I have windows xp......Can anyone help

You could try deleting your files in internet temp folder to get rid of any corrupt links and run your virus checker!

Happens to me also, aswell as quite a few other XP machines at work!

Only way I get round it is to reset the user profiles, as its usually a corrupt setting somewhere which never gets found or repaired even when you do the repair operation within XP.

Easiest thing to try, is make up a new user on your computer for yourself, transfer all your files form the documents folder across, and then if its all good, delete the old user & profile & use the new one!

If it still does it though, try and think if you installed anything lately which seems to coinside with when the problem started, and also wouldn't do any harm to download a copy of Ad-Aware & do a full scan either!

also if it was a browser hijack, it wouldnt so much stop responding, instead it would bombard you with popups & ads even when your doing nothing!

download adaware 6 - run that give it a try just for tryings sake.
But sounds to me like theres somethin wrong with I.E. if you're on broadband goto www.windowsupdate.com and download all the critical updates at least - check everything else that you use in the Windows XP section(providing you use the software its mentioning)
give that a try and post back if it works or doesnt. Cheers

some (most) spyware will bypass the clear browser settings - they have keys in the registry that will just effect it on next reboot. - give it a go tho.
