AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Have a look at the following two links for reasons why:

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=tiscali
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=unhappiness

Tiscali, the company who will downgrade you to a low-priority circuit because you downloaded more than 150Mb in a day (which they class as being "heavy usage" - unless they've changed it recently, you won't find that little detail in their Terms & Conditions)......on this low-priority circuit, you'll get slower than dial-up speeds, if you can even connect......oh, and don't think about phoning their helpdesk, you'll be waiting for hours (and their phone-system is set up to cut you off if there are calls in the queue, asking you to call back, meaning you pay for every phone-call - could have sworn that was illegal, but not sure).

Just my two pence worth!

Yes Dan, i have been experiencing the less than dialup speeds. My funniest speedtest so far has been 13kbps on a 512kbps line, with no other software running!

There's someone on ADSLGuide who hit 6kbps the other day!

For anyone wanting broadband, use the following webpage to check for decent companies to get the connection through:

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/compare.asp

I still like doing this, comparing Tiscali to Zen Internet (the company I work for ):

http://www.adslguide.org.uk/isps/compare.asp?tiscali=ON&zen=ON&cmp_action=Compare

if only tiscali had invested all that money they wasted on advertisitng, into their network, they would offer a good service that would speak for itself!

Work: (speedtest)
Home: (speedtest) - somewhat slower than it should be, although running that test using a remote-desktop connection won't help, especially not while I'm downloading from my machine.

You usually do get a "good" period to start with......then it all goes downhill once you're through the cut-off date for cancelling, and you're all-but-stuck in a 12-month contract.

"Cheap" does not necessarily mean "good quality".

OK, there are some decent ISPs out that do offer cheap connections, but you have to weigh up more than just price...
