A major earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit the Bedminster
district of Bristol in the early hours of the morning. Epicentre; Asda.
Victims were seen wandering in the streets aimlessly muttering 'ere mate,
where's the hospikawl' and 'Oohh me skelington'.
The earthquake destroyed the area causing at least £30 worth of damage.
Several priceless collections of mementoes from the Balearics were damaged
beyond recognition. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed.
Many locals were woken up well before their giros had arrived.
The Bristol Evening Post reported that hundreds of resident were confused
and bewildered, and still coming to terms with the fact that something
interesting had happened in Bedminster.
One resident, Tracey Sharon Smith, a 15 year old mother of 5 said " It was
such a shock. Me babby Chardonnay-Mercedes came running into the bedroom
crying. Me youngest two, Tyler-Morgan and Megan-Storm slept through it all.
I was still shaking when I was watching Kilroy the next morning."
Apparently though, looting, mugging and car crime did carry on as normal.
The British Red Cross has now managed to ship 3000 crates of Sunny D to the
area to help stricken families. Rescue workers are still searching through
the rubble and have so far found large quantities of personal belongings;
mostly benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos and fine bone
china from Poundstretchers.
The appeal - how you can help
This appeal is to raise money for food and clothing parcels for those
unfortunate enough to be caught up in the disaster. The most needed items
are Fila or Burberry Baseball hats, Kappa Shell suits, Rockport boots and
any item available at Primark.
Food parcels may be harder to come by but are needed just the same. these
include microwave meals, ice-cream and cans of Colt 45 or Special Brew.
REMEMBER
20p buys a biro for filling out compensation forms, £2.00 buys chips, crisps
and blue fizzy drinks for a family of 9, and £5.00 will buy 20 Bensons and a
disposable lighter to calm the nerves of those affected.
Please dig deep. Thank you.
