Bloody clutch cable snapped last night on the way home from picking my girlfriend up from work What a pain in the arse. There was loads of smoke and thought the engine or gearbox had died on me too. Oh well, getting a neighbour to tow me round to a garage in his jeep, fun

im not positive its the clutch cable, but i tried jamming it into reverse to get off the road, and a real bad noise occured, followed by lots of smoke. I then turned the car off and opened the bonnet, then decided to get the car off the road as i was holding up traffic.

lol i dont think this is a cambelt problem. Before the clutch died, i would put a small amount of pressure on the pedal and it would go up and down and whack me in the foot, gear changes got harder each time until 1st was impossible, then when trying to put into reverse, heard a loud screech again, followed by lots of crunching, then smoke, then me jumping out of car

well the clutch has broken badly, and its a whole gearbox out job for the garage, so its gonna cost me about £250 to fix. with a service its gonna be nearly £350-£400 and i only paid £300 for the car

drew please read my posts. I state that the clutch has failed, not just the cable. Adam-d, im trying to save every last penny for australia, and i dont want the hassle of forking out for scrapping it, re-insuring new car, fixing all its problems, only to be leaving the country very soon
