I think i'm paying too much on tax...

I'm a full-time student, and work part-time at a local restraunt/pub.

Do on average about 20-30 hours a week, but get taxed

PAYE TAX 2.60
National Insurance 2.81

Anyone help me out?

You're allowed to earn up to £5k or £6k a year without paying income tax. i.e. the first £5k u earn is tax free. Then above £5k to about £20k you get taxed 22%ish on that figure.

everyone gets taxed. period. it's just that in full time education, you usually don't physically have the spare hours to earn enough to be taxed on. you are allowed to earn approx £80pw before this happens. according to inland revenue, as a student you should be paying tax if you work in term time, but not when on holiday. if you start to earn a lot more than usual, then you go on an emergency code & get raped. phone the local tax office and they'll explain it to you.

you get taxed if you earn over your tax limit. you pay national insurance if you earn over the limit per month. I don;t think have to pay national insurance as a student if you don;t want to

^^^^^ This is correct I believe, you get taxed if you work during termtime, but employment during holidays is allowed tax-free. The form you need is P38s:
