mines goin on passenger side an fine on drivers :S
i put it down to the coonts breakin into the motor an destroyin the passenger door in that area weakened it an started it off

i personally think its to do with lowered suspension, maybe all the extra stress and strain you can but on the car causes this crakin?

Tis amazing how much flex their is in hte corsa body, next time its hot and ya got ya windows down, and no ones looking,lol, wedge ya fingers in the gap between the door and pillar while driving ya can feel the flex as is squeezes ya fingers

So guys, what causes this? Ive seen it on standard corsa's too, was it just a bad batch or is it a design fault in all corsa b 3door shells? Ive also heard of people welding them up only to find that it cracks again a couple of months down the road. If it was me and I had the problem I would be getting in touch with a rally-prep company who specialise in re-enforcing shells for competition use...

my car is fine, no cracks at all, its ben lowered for 18 months and is a 1995 SRi 16v

must be a design fault them too much stress on one point, i have heard of them cracking again, when ya weld them ya gotta make sure you drill the ends of the cracks so they are round and dont carry on crackin, if ya get me

My 5door has been lowered 60mm or more for over 45,000 miles now. 15,000 miles of which it was running on the bumpstops! If it was a 3door im sure it would have started cracking.
Ive heard people say that peoples cars which have started cracking 'could' be covered by vauxhalls 6 year anti-corrosion guarantee in which case they 'should' repair it for free.

These are just simple stress cracks, nothing to do with being lowered (sp) or anything, just a bad design fault. On the newer corsa's they put a plate behing the post to strengthen it up which is why most of the newer corsas shouldnt have them. Hope this helps any of you who wanted to know.

They are caused by the stiffening of the suspension 90% of the B-pillars do this, I have 2 on mine i'll get a pic up of it later.

Not always. I have seen plenty of bog standard corsas at work and most of the older ones have stress cracks on the B pillars. As I said before, the newer ones have a plate behind the pillar to stiffen it up.

if your worried bout failing the mot, then fill them over with p38 and then brush some paint over the top. if they ask say they have been welded but you couldnt afford to get them sprayed properly

Yup agree with most posts, nothing to do with stiff/lowered suspension.
My corsa was on its standard steelies & suspension for the first 3 years I had it & the b-pillars started cracking during that period.
If anything, the stiffer setup did make them go a bit worse, but thats about it really!
Drivers side one on mine is about 12mm ling & passenger side is about 4mm long

yeh mine cracked on my 94 "L"reg Gsi about a year ago, i used a halfords chipkit only £8.99 and it was sorted, but cracked about 4-5 months later again!!!
