Right ya driving along cars running fine, oh its a h-reg mk2 1.2 with carb, and after a while the car just slows down even if ya put ya foot to the floor and the car comes to a stop, turn off the ignition turn it back on and its starts and drives fine then later in the journey it will do it again, on a 28mile trip it did it 4 times going and 2 times on the way back??, what the hell is wrong we need this motor to get us to glastonbury

looking at engine, fuel pump is on the left-hand side bolted to the cam housing.

would also check the fuel-filter aswell.

right got ya, check the fuel feed and return from fuel pump, where is the fuel filter is it part of the carb? or integral to the pump? do the pipes before the pump need checking or are they plastic all the way back to the tank

i 'think' it under the car somewhere, near the tank. It's where it was on an old Astra I was routing for parts once which had a 1.4 carb'd engine.

sounds like carb icing to me. does it have a k&n? my sr was terrible for it - you're driving along fine, then car starts to splutter & lacks power. switch it off, restart & it's fine. especially likely to do it on a run. get hold of some of that aluminium type ducting & make a hot air feed, just like a cold air feed, except running from the top of the ex manifold to the air intake on the carb & it should be cured. i'm 98% sure that's what it'll be. good luck & hope you make it to glastonbury!

Thing is it does it on warm days, cold days and the engine is completely standard, standard air box, filter air feeds etc so its a mystery

its rear drivers side on mine, although mine is injection. It might be inline in the engine bay.
