Hi Peeps
I Had my car back from my mate that dun all the work and dun a really good job like 3 weeks out and i started noticing bubbles on my smooth boot u can noitce them if u look like but they started appering like what seems to be the problem i am taking it back to show him, but do u think if i have probs like this i shud hav the fibre glass cover over the top of this and fitted sprayed????
dont know what to do guys help cheers

when i seen the progress pics of ur car thought ud have troulb etoo much filler mate sounds like he hasnt flattened the air out of the filler and thats what the "bubbles" r likely to be

is it a stell flush boot or fibreglass? i know peeps where the fibreglass begins to react wif paint after about 2 weeks of the job being done

doesnt lok like there is a plate welded in at all. is there just filler slodged in the recess?

it does look like just filler, if it is then theres no wonder its going crap!

and it WILL fall out! basicly all the air is comming out of the filler, and bubbling the paint, or the filler could be moving, distorting the paint on top.

with him saying bubbles i think its the air coming out of the filler thats far too much filler to be able to totally get rid of any air pockets.
your suppose to just skim filler over th fibre glass but looks like its walloped it on thick from ur pics

ohdear, i would get it redone completely, there is way too much filler, its gonna be all over the place soon, filler sinks and you boiot will ripple in a few weeks.

He hasnt sanded the air out of the filler?... WTF is that meant to mean.
The problem is most likely one of 2 things.
1. Body filler is porous, so if the filler got wet, it could be that it has absorbed water. This water has not been dryed out before painting. When the paint surface gets warm, the water will rise to the surface and cause bubbles.
2. Microblisters. This is the technical name used when moisture is trapped under the paint surface and tries to escape and causes lots of tiny blisters and bubbles. However, it doesnt really mean its anything to do with the bodyfiller. It could simply be that the tailgate was painted in the cold (causing the surface to be wet/moist before the application of paint) or it could be moisture or oil coming from the guys compressor, which is being mixed with the air used to spray the paint.
The amount of filler on there wont cause any real major probs, apart from the risk of sinkage and cracking.
