When in traffic or when my car has been on idle for about 5-10mins the fan comes on but makes a really nasty whining sound. Sounds a bit rattly. I just had my head gasket replaced and the car hasnt been properly driven in a month, would this just be the fan being still for ages and its just a bit ceased or dirty??
Any ideas? I'm gonna take it back to the place that did the head gasket anyway as i sometimes get a metal rattling noise when accelerating in first and second.

have u tried leavin it ticking over with the bonnet up and wait for the fan to come on so u can look and see where the sound is coming from?

Did that and it seems like it is the fan behind the grille. Although it hasnt done it since friday and i've been in my car quite a bit over the weekend. Maybe because it hasnt come on in so long. Or at least thats what i hope it is anyway
