i want to wipe everything off and start again with the re boot cd as im givin pc to mum and im not sure how to do it. tried clickin the format c option and it comes up with a box basically tellin me i cant

what do i do?

Do a fresh install of Windows......if you're using Win2k or WinXP, grab the bootdisks from here, run the bootdisk-creation program to save the relevant info to the floppy disks, and then reboot your machine with disk #1 in the drive...

Follow on-screen instruction from there, and it should have the option to format the drive during installation.

you need a boot disk, stick that in and wait to load then type in "format c: /q will do a easy and quick format on the c drive

ok i put in disk one and it came up with a notepad window saying "the drivers are on disk 2 thanks" so i put disk 2 in and it just came up with a drivers folder

put the boot disk in and it wil leave u on a dos prompt
then type format c:/ and ur off

feck boot disks

if u have windows xp on cd then bang that in the drive set the boot order in your Cmos setting to boot from Cd-rom then start the computer.

it should prompt u to start from the cd.

Then follow the instructions simple as.

when yer computer boots up it should say something like 'hit del to enter setup'

or 'hit f2 to enter setup'

so when ya see that do whichever one it say on your computer

then go in there and find the boot order and set it so that the computer boots for CD.

Just use a Windows 98 Boot disk to format it through the dos prompt.

Then stick in 2000 or XP and it will boot from CD.

Simple as that.

this is what i used to do but there is a step on the xp disk that will partition and format the disk the way u want it.

saves time
