I just installed a new sound system (gold star for me). It looks and sounds good the problem is: if i take the key out and the stereo goes off put the ignition back on it stays turned off, i turn it on and it starts from square again, it has stored my preset stations on the radio but it starts from the begining of cds. Why wont it just carry on from where i left it? its really annoying me, did i miss something when i put it in?

its something to do with your HU then and nothing to do with the wiring mate. Read the manual, there might be a setting somewhere...otherwise, you HU wasnt equiped to do it..

aye mate, annoying it may be, but you have a decent HU (i hope for 400 quid lol)....but check manual for any settings...otherwise you stuck with having to go back to the start of a CD

there's nout in the manual, the thing is, when i take the key out, it just totally cuts the power so i wander if thats why it resets, perhaps its the car, for some reason when i open the door now it beeps as if i've left the keys in the ignition when i blatently havent?!?

aye mine does this. Turn the key, so everything is off...and the HU will still be on. Take the key out and it cuts power to it....but i have to have the key in the 2nd postion (before the start) to get the HU to start.
Personally mate, i would butcher around the alpine website and see if theres anything up there about it.
Only way that might work, is give the alpine a direct perm LIVE (which it should have if its a 60w jobby), that way, taking the key out will still keep the HU on and you can see if it works then.
Although surely playing a CD, then switching the HU off (via the on/off button on the HU) then switching it back on will tell you if the HU has the "missing" function?

I'll tke a gander at alpine's web site, it does carry on from where it was if i turn it off at the HU, so i think the common dinominator (spelling) here is the car, i dont understand tho because the standard unit picked up where it left off.. i dont think its a fault on the HU so maybe i fluffed summink up when i put it in.

Take the headunit out and swop the yellow & red wires around i.e. red to yellow, yellow to red.

y do that - the preset stations are staying set - its just the CD goes back to the start - swapping the red/yellow wires will just mean he loses his permanent live which feeds the memory surely???

mine dies this, alpine CVA1003 - motorised screen one.
It hold the radio stations but none of the bass/treble settings and starts from the beginging of cd's.
had no joy with swapping red and yellow.
