Why do some ISPs try to block ports for p2p and file transfer programs? i cant understand the concept of p2p but if im trying to send a frend a file over msn its impossible.

I had this problem when I installed my router/firewall. It wasn't the ISP - all I had to do was open the ports manually on the router.
Whats your ISP? Is it something gay like AOL?

No idea, its on a wireless service. What ports do i need to open for torrent and file transfers over msn?
How do i go about in opening them manually?

On my router you use a feature called 'port forwarding'.
I know HTTP uses Port 80, MSN uses anotherone, as does DC++, FTP and the like.
Im sure you could search the net to find out easily.
Furthermore, look at your hardware manufacturer or firewall manufacturers website about it, or phone your ISP.
Its more than likely a firewall blocking all ports apart from 80 to stop port scan attacks.

Bit Torrent uses 6881 for the tracker, and 6881-6899 for the transferral...
File transfer over MSN, no idea, but if you find out, let me know because I still haven't got that working (not that I've tried much, though)!
