Looking at £250+ for the cpu ram + board.
Ram alone is £130 a stick still

Just priced that up with my "supplier" and, brand-new, it came to £628......the expensive part being the Ti500 at £163.
My suggestion? Change the graphics card, for that money you could get a LOT better than a card that doesn't support DirectX9. And also up the power a bit from the PSU, 300W is nothing by today's standards, and will under-power a decent machine far too easily...
And to answer the above, £130 for RAM will get you a nice PC3200 (DDR400) 1Gb stick......he only asked for 512Mb, which is £53 for the same speed.
