ive got a modded corsa Gsi 1.6 16v, with zorst and viper kit etc, its a pretty quick little car!!

its got 14 inch gsi alloys at the moment with a diameter of roughly 42cm
i want some 17 inch alloys which will have a diameter of roughly 47cm...

which is a diffrence of just 5cm, (2 inches)
so will this really make any sort of difference to the acceleration and handling on my car???

Well....you'll lose some acceleration as the roll of the wheel is bigger...thus it takes longer for the wheel to go round. Steering will be affected slightly as the wheel has a bigger surface area, thus takes slightly longer to turn.

17's look good but are a bit of a bitch too fit unless they've gt a perfect offset, stick to a nice set of 16's, they look just as good and wont hamper the acceleration

As long as you're not totally slammed, then its not that much work. I'd say 17's was the absolute max you should go unless you're building a show car.

offset is ET45, 17x7, 205/40 tyre and im gonna do ALL arch work so it WILL be good fit the Gsi's are already a little lower anyway so wont lower it yet....but if i do it will be between 50-70mm

not toooo worried if i loose a "little" performace as i wil do further engine mods later on anyway so i dont mind

ive heard people with 17s with 1.6 engines dont really notice any major performance differences anyway

it does 0-60 in 8-9seconds, so how much am i looking at with 17s?

It will be slower and you will need to lower it.

Its not really worth doing a 0-60 on 17s. Doubt you'd be impressed. If you're going for track days, keep your old 14s and just use the 17s all other times.

Then you'll be fine on 17s. Go for it.

you wont notice any difference apart from bumps seem bigger and harder!

i noticed no difference in speed, only way you would see the difference is if it was timed properly, and then your only talkin hundredths of a second over 0-60

yeah thats what i thought
coz the 17s are only slightly bigger in diameter and circumference compared to the alloys i got now so it cant efect it too much or be noticable!

i disagree, there was a huge differnce in speed when i took my old 17's off and put the standard rims back on, so much quicker.

dont forget the 17's will weigh like twice as much.

gunna say the tame as kris, and his car has loadsa torque to more the 17's round lol, its not the size that matters as much its the weight of the alloy! if u really want 17's then pic some light ones. also i think 15's look alot better on a corsa than 17's

Ive no power steering and when I wrnt from 13" steels to 16" alloys I noticed that some big bumps nearly rip the wheel outa my hands, other times Ive had the car go into "scalectrix" mode where it just wants to follow a rut in the road. Bloody good fun tho, and tones and tones of feedback, just the way I like it

from 13" to 16" i noticed a great difference in speed, especially low end pickup was shite!

but i guess u do notice a drop in acceleration throughout the range.

Agree with Kris and Broster, the weight of the wheel will make a big difference. Also you will probably see a negative affect on the handling.

on a 1.6 with good quality wheels you will hardly notice anything.

the difference will be more apparant on lower powered cars.
