E plate onwards astra GTE 16v
First ones had coscast heads

Then Cav GSI 2000 and 2000 4wd, up to J plate,
then cav sri from J plate to L plate had 2.0 XE (red top)

From H to M the calibra 16v had a red top,
the later ones, (L onward) have distributorless ingnition packs ( featured on very last cav GSi's as well)

Last but not least as fitted STANDARD to the Lotus Nova (yes they do exist)
ALL turbo engines up to R reg (calibra) and M reg (Cav turbo's) were NON ECOTEC
even if they say they are.

Now back to coscast heads:

fitted to early astra GTE 16v's E and F plate. Very rare, VIRTUALLY never go pourous unlike
normal c 20 XE ones. Very slightly modded to give early GTE's the magic 156 bhp figure.
ALL Turbos, ecotec or not fitted with coscast heads
contrary to what dai says, the 20XE heads are still VERY good and don't go porous that often.

Have searched the deepest darkest corner of the web, and the only little bit of info I could find on a Lotus Nova came from a max power website so im fcuked if I will beleive that!!!

this thing? :

A few years back, the boffins at Lotus got together to play around with a couple of Novas that happened to be hanging about. Some time later, they`d fitted them with bigger twin-cam engines and called them Lotus Novas.

Over in Northern Ireland, a bloke called Marcus Plowman heard about the Lotus Novas and decided to build his own version. The starting point was a Nova SR, in Vauxhall Helious Blue metallic - a standard colour on the Nova option list, but a rare choice, strangely.

A GSi facelift cleaned up the lines, and then came bonnet vents and scoop, Renault Laguna front splitter, Citroen AX rear spoiler and DTM-inspired single wiper conversion. With 17in BWA Jarama wheels and a 35mm suspension drop, that was the looks sorted.

But the best bit was under the bonnet. Out went the old SR engine, and in went Vauxhall`s wonderful 2-litre, 16-valve twin-cam motor. Not content with that potent force, Marcus spent a bit on tuning parts, rebuilding the engine with new forged pistons and a ported cylinder head - but not before the bottom end had been lightened and balanced for maximum reliability.

Gulping great Weber 45s and a competition exhaust manifold finished it off, and endowed the beast with 220bhp; enough for 150mph and a 0-60mph of 6.5 seconds.

Just in case he ever got bored with the sound of the carbs gulping air and the exhaust booming it out, Marcus also stacked his Nova full of the best Alpine ICE. The interior was replaced by GTE parts, with a few extras pillaged from other Vauxhalls, and the finishing touches came courtesy of five Lotus crest badges (at £35 each) and a couple of Lotus Design badges for the door pillars. It`s always good to acknowledge inspiration.
