when car stereos are said to be "DAB READY" what oes this mean?

DAB - Digital Audio Broadcasting
U get crisp quality radio that has extra stations. To make DAB work u need a extra box thing connect to your headunit but your headunit has to be compatible.

the only one that I know of that comes with it all is a Blaupunkt all you need is the aeriel mounted onto the windscreen
