I recently posted an ebay item, well packaged and marked fragile

10 days after posting i have recieved and email stating that the item arrived and is broken.

i have asked for description of the damage and pictures.

where do i stand though in terms giving the buyer a refund? as far as i am concerned the item was perfect when i posted it. can i claim from post office? if so how can i prove it was them?

I am reluctant to give a full refund as the item was packaged well and so i feel i did every thing i could to send it safely.

any suggestions?

If the buyer did not pay for insurance or ask for it then it is their fault!

You can claim money back from the post office tho

http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?mediaId=400031&catId=400028

states Compensation cover for loss or damage up to £28 or market value of item, (whichever is lower)

do i have to get the item back to take to the post office?
how can i prove it was damaged in transit by them?
Took no insurance out for the item, buyer never asked.

the item went for 55 quid so i may suggest a refund minus any postage costs then i can claim the rest back, which i think is fair?

Whether they took out extra insurance or not you are still required to refund the item, its up to you whether you refund the full amount or just the £28 Royal Snail will refund you. Always do it minus postage tho as that is non refundable.

You can package it all you like and it will still get broke somehow, bunch of amateurs. Ask them to send it back too, if they dont then no refund.

ask them to send you the item back for examination, BEFORE you give them anything back. you can normally tell if THEY have broke it or its been dammaged in transit.

seen the pictures so it is definately broke, and whether it was broke in transit or not its still useless to me.

offered to send him the postage receipt to make the claim for the £28 himself.
