The water in the mirror and the aeroplane engines symbolise time travel. He turned back time to save gretchen but upset the time line when doing so, hence the engine from the plane killing him. That was the twist.

yes I thought that the mirror bit gave him the chance to turn the tables to save Gretchen or woteva but consequently the jet engine killed him instead? Wot swith the wierd dood in the scary bunny suit? freaked me out
