Im just wiring up an amp for a mate but theres no power to it at all,ive connected it the + on the battery and ive connected the - to a screw which touches the shell of the car,wot else cud it be??

Remote lead for headunit? Crap earth connection. Blown fuse?

u no the remote lead from the headunit,does it clip in just above the fuse,its a jvc headunit

Well, coming from your headunit there should be a blue lead (sometimes blue/white), you gotta make a wire to connect from that to the third connection on your amp.
If you;ve already done this and still no joy, you can get a small wire connect it from the + side of your amp and connect it to the other + (remote connection) of your amp. That wont do it any harm, its just a trigger to tell your amp to come on when the headunit does, both 12v supplies.
If it works then your remote wire is the prob.
