the above picture is of a small waterbourne, reptilian-like animal, often found in ponds and lakes.
It is native to the UK and is very common. You often catch these when fishing.

what do you call it?

this is a bit of a mini experiment into regional dialects, and if it works, it should be quite interesting.

pretty much- there should be hundreds of different regional variations of the term.

I believe that is a specimine of a Notophthalmus viridescens but would need a few other pictures to be sure
