Proper way to do this is a 1600, but thats £10k on the engine and more elsewhere.

I'm doing it at the moment with an ex-motorsport shell - already has cage and wide arches. Drop a 2 litre in for starters and its a quick car for less money.

I might still tune a smaller engine to get the handling back. I'll see how criminal the valver is first.

i was thinking of using my X14XE when its out of my car, and building it to big spec, but i want enough power to scare focus RS's and honda CTRs and the like, or maybe even the odd porsche

with a 1.4 16v ...... 240+bhp no

If your aiming for that power, you really need a 2.0 to start with.....

But, power isnt everything.... make the car handle and lighten it will do wonders round a track.

My wee track car is getting its 2nd engine done just now..... should be aprox 230bhp N/A , see pics in garage

here's a list to think about before big power....

LEDA suspension
Tran-x differential
Slicks
rip the interior out, and cage it

even a std 1.6 16v will feel good round a track if it can grip and turn....

ps.... a near std 2.0 corsa will keep up with CTR's round a track....

Ian.... the only problem i have found with the 2.0 is/was just the grip at the front when coming out of corners.... hopefully the diff and better suited tyres will cure this...... handling seems pretty neutral otherwise.... depending on susp setup
