I know this is probably the same as asking 'how long is a piece of string' etc. but how much would it cost to put a 2.0 16v (C20XE or X20XEV) engine into a Corsa, including the cost of the engine.
I'm assuming brakes, and suspension will need to be uprated, but what about the exhaust, can the 2.0 manifold be made to fit the 1.4 exhaust?
The car in question will be an L reg 1993 1.4i 8v Corsa SRi.
Thanks...

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... Lee Mitchell charges £1500 for the engine conversion including a reconditioned engine. The brakes are extra which will cost about £100 to get fitted and reconditioned, you will need a minimum of lowered suspension springs and it is recomended you get the Cossvaux kit which is made for 2.0 Corsas - this costs about £100 at a guess. You will need a custom decat pipe to fit the exhaust to the 1.4 exhaust, though this will only be for a temporary measure as the 1.4 exhaust system will be pretty restrictive for the 2.0 engine, you don't need a catalytic convertor...

Yes but I'm lazy!
Thanks for your help though, and AdamF, much appreciated...
Suppose I should start collating a shopping list for this transplant then.

Would it be more cost effective to use a X20XEV - ie. less money spent on replacement parts and such like?
I know these have less power than the XE, but they are newer and cheaper, and from what I've heard can be tuned to be just as good as the XE...

They probably can, but as they are newer engines there are fewer tuning products available. Apparently the Z20LET is supposed to be amazing and much better then the C20LET, they are supposed to be highly tunable too, but getting hold of products is pretty hard still...

Does anyone know what the differences are between the two engines? Obviously one is 136bhp the other 150bhp+, I'm assuming the loss of power is down to the XEV having an EGR system and non Cosworth-designed cylinder head, amongst other things?

the c20xe is a better known engine, and thus easier to transplant into other cars such as astra, nova, corsa etc.etc.than the x20xev. It doesnt have tricky immobiliser systems like the x20.
And Lee charges £1600, which includes engine, fitting kit and labour. Engine is not 'reconditioned' but usually comes with a 'Shinee' warranty
Brakes, you can pick up for £50-£100 and suspension I'd suggest you spend £300-£400.
Suspension was the most expensive part of my C20XE conversion.
Hope this helps a little.Corb.

Didn't know about the immobiliser thing in the XEV. Cheers for your help Corb.
I am just weighing up the pro's and con's of both engines, as I don't want something I have to repair every week!
Presumably it would be a good idea to uprate the brakes and suspension on the SRi before the transplant?
What would be the best thing to do about the exhaust, I just want to keep the car looking as standard as possible (black bumpers and all) - don't want to attract attention to it etc.
