Mine's been machined.
how much did this set you back & how much reduction did you have?
I know someone who works on metal so could get it done for the cost of a few pints down the lcoal
It was done when the engine was rebuilt, so was included in the labour. Not sure if it was machined evenly so the flywheel was balanced or anything - whether it makes a difference or not I dunno..
Would have to be machined evenly or your engine would shake itself to bits
Think he just chiselled a bit off by hand

The weight has to be removed from the outer edge of the fly to make a difference, think 2kg-2.5kg off standard is safe, but beware cos this will weaken a flywheel and imagin that detaching itself from the engine doing 6000rpm in your direction, it would rip through the gear box casing the bulkhead and would be greeting you somewhere inside the car, possibly the other side of your legs, lol

Unless the wind blew it through the drafty gap between the passenger door and the A pillar and it sliced your bollocks off?

Its an absolute nightmare in traffic to drive...
Tell me about it, my clutch has two settings. Pull away or stall fucks your foot/leg after a few minutes in traffic but it's quality for launching

It won't rev any higher, but you will have to open the throttle slightly sooner to compensate for the loss of momentum.

well i found one on ebay the other night that said it would even work with the standard astra clutch or smoething like that, the only ones i can see on there now are 2.64kg lighter and for race use, which might be too extreme. This is the one i can find now...

I fitted one of these to a vtec civic for a lad.
Tickover was abolutely fine and town driving was ok.
Did seem to get into vtec quicker but dont know hadnt driven the car a lot (as obviously it wasnt mine).
Biggest disadvantage was that when driving steady the revs just dropped right down between gear changes so took some getting used too.
Liked to be driven quick through the gears so as somebody mentioned a short shift is a very complementary mod.

lowers the inertia of the wheel so it take less engine force to turn the fly wheel. so i presume it simply revs more freely

It's best to get it done when the engine is in pieces cause then the rod, pistons, crank and flywheel with clutch can be balanced together.
